Ossa, the main protagonist of Core: Afterlife. As a placeholder for some flavour to this page since there are no other pages... let's summarize a portion of the story of Core: Afterlife (Part 1). Ossa, a formerly alive human, finds herself in the yard - the first tier of the afterlife. She meets a guide named Leonn, who takes her under his wing and recruits her into Terravon - the faction of the Yard that aims to protect the world of the living from their opposing faction; The Solar Group. Through Leonn, Ossa is taight that TSG is a group of mad folk who wish to destroy the afterlife, worshiping all things demonic and evil. Ossa is tasked with finding out their weakness, and sets out to investigate TSG further on her own. Through her own keen eye for details, she manages to find a way into TSG's headquarters; a massive pyramid in the middle of the desert, far from the city she started in. However, it's guarded by a technically obsessed maniac named Godfrey. Although he appears scrawny, he and Ossa have an evenly matched battle - Ossa's strength being outperformed by Godfrey's machine enhancements. Finally, Ossa strikes a solid blow to Godfrey's face, damaging the machine covering his eyes, a machine made to keep him alive.
Ossa stops the fight and helps Godfrey get inside to his workshop to make repairs to save his life. Although he seemed like a complete lunatic before, Godfrey turns out to be plenty sane enough to see Ossa's concern for life and decides not to fight her again, allowing her to explore the pyramid so long as she stays out of sight. Ossa interviews Godfrey about TSG, as well as sneak into their library to gain vital information. She rushes back to tell Leonn about her findings. TSG isn't evil, nor do they worship demons, but they work closely with them to prevent armageddon. Ossa theorizes another bad actor to be in their midst, planning something much worse than anyone could have expected. Leonn expresses concern that this narrative is not the truth, but Ossa stands by it, telling Leonn about her fight and befriendment of Godfrey.Leonn denies Ossa's claims and orders her to stay away from such close contact with TSG, but commends her ability to best Godfrey.
Annoyed, Ossa wanders around to interview more local folk in the city about TSG, eventually coming to the conclusion that the newfound knowledge is likely to be true, finding no evidence that TSG has ever attempted to harm anyone through demonic magic. Ossa decides to return to the pyramid to speak with Godfrey again to convince him to introduce her to the leader of TSG, but finds his post has been replaced by a rather tired looking individual. Yawrin, as she comes to know him, introduces himself through yawns as a demon sent by the All-Powered Demon known as Vulture. She asks to get by to speak to Godfrey, but Yawrin denies her and sleepily explains he must kill her now. They clash, Yawrin sleepily overwhelming Ossa with power. However, the moment he grabs Ossa to land a physical attack, he stops dead in his tracks. He seems completely awake as he asks Ossa who she is, finding her answer perplexing. "I am Ossa, and I was once alive."
Yawrin does not explain why he backed off, but quickly drags Ossa inside the pyramid and into the library. There, he speaks frantically about TSG's prophetic teachings, explaining to Ossa that a powerful force was coming to rip apart the realms, a powerful force only created from a once living human soul. The demon explains to Ossa that only a fated hero will be able to stop him, one of "strange origin." Ossa gets caught up on that last part, as Yawrin motioned to her. Believing her "origin" to be nothing more than the typical rebirth cycle of the afterlife, she denies herself to be of any significance, but requests to take back the prophetic books to show Leonn so that the two factions might find peace and team up to defeat their common enemy. Yawrin agrees and allows Ossa to leave with the book.
Ossa returns to the city and excitedly explains the new situation to Leonn, who seems annoyed that Ossa had continued her friendly interactions with TSG. Just as he goes to deny the new information, however, they hear something strange...
